Limericks

This week we have been learning about limericks. We had to search what a limerick is and make a DLO about it with an example. I'm not very good at writing limericks because I think too much about the story.

Fortnite Disappeared into a blackhole and it should've stayed there for good

Well preparing for our eAsTTle  writing test we wrote a lot of  persuasive arguments. One of them we did was about fortnite. Here is my writing!

Halloween

Happy Halloween!
Last Thursday was Halloween. I went to ShantyTown with my drama group and dressed up as zombies. I didn't get to scare people, instead I helped out with selling candy, popcorn, popsicles, the donation box and the clicker. It was a lot of fun putting the makeup on and dressing up though! Oliver also had a halloween party on saturday. I dressed up the same, but I didn't have proper makeup and latex at home so had to ruin my face with food colouring, pva glue and tissues. I'm glad it didn't stain!

Mr Kumar told us to write a spooky story, so I chose the scariest thing ever to exist. Read it to find out!!

Team Time

Today Totora had team time. This means that we get to either bring our own device, or watch a movie with popcorn (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). It's a reward for the people who do their work and/or don't get on reflection. I'm a pretty average kid, so I got on. I chose own device. I TRIED to play minecraft with Oliver but it wouldn't let me join his world so i just played my own world where I'm making my own village. All the animals are called Greg and Greg's Girlfriend. I also messaged my friend in America.

Algebra

This week for numeracy, Mr Kumar has been teaching us about Algebra. It seems scary when you hear it, but it's actually super easy. We did a few work sheets around it, then we got this slide explaining it further.  I actually like this Algebra, and would like to try something harder.

Wearable Arts

Since term 2, we have been working on wearable arts. Liam, Rata and I are making a Fern Dress. We made our prototype, which ended up losing both arms and the stick helping it stand up... We have a few issues, but are brainstorming ideas to fix them. For example, how are we going to get the dress on and off? We thought we could make an opening in the metal hoop skirt and she could slip in and out of it, or more fabric instead of a hoop skirt, then add a zip.

We will start to make the proper dress tomorrow. Here is a picture of our prototype

Instructions

Yesterday we made paper planes using the set of instructions on a google doc. Some of them were really confusing, and I kept mucking up. Later on, we went outside and flew them. Mine did ok, but I was way far from a ralevent place.
In the afternoon, one of the Juniors came to our class and taught us how to make origami butterflies. It was a lot of fun and I made two. He also gave us the instruction sheet so we could try ourselfs. Thank you Jo for teaching us!!

Now that we've done that, we have to  create our own step by step instructions to make anything. I'm not sure what I'm going to do it on yet. I did do a little funny one while I was thinking, though it's not very good... Hopefully I will have an idea by tomorrow!

Why Legend of Zelda: BOTW is a piece of art

After we did the joined argument about cellphones, we split off by ourselfs to write our own. It took me a while to come up with an idea but I decided to write about why Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is a piece of art. Here is the final product!

✃ Shapes and Angles

This week we have been learning about how to measure interior angle sums, interior angles and exterior angles of any shape. This was quite new, though it was ok since we knew what the shapes were.

To measure the interior angle sum, you take the number of sides of a shape minus 2, then times that by 180. Next, we find the interior angle. Take the interior angle sum divided by the number of sides. Finally the exterior angle. The equation to find this is 180 - interior angle.

In simpler words,

{ NUMBER OF SIDES - 2 } x 180 = INTERIOR ANGLE SUM

{ INTERIOR ANGLE SUM } ÷ { NUMBER OF SIDES} = INTERIOR ANGLE

180 - { INTERIOR ANGLE } = EXTERIOR ANGLE

✃ Hopefully you found this helpful!

Cellphones at School

Billie, Kyra and I wrote our argument about weither cellphones should be allowed at school or not.  We did the introduction together, then split of to write our own paragraphs. I did the first paragraph about eye health, Kyra did the second about getting distracted, and Billie did the third about cyber bullying. After we read over it and edited some of the spelling, we wrote the conclusion. Here is what we have now!

Angles

This week, we have been learning about measuring and identifying the different angles. It was a lot of fun using the protractor. Here is my learning DLO!

Term 1 & 2

These two terms have been a lot of fun. We had Hanmer Springs camp which was a lot of fun, and I'm really proud of myself for climbing to the top of both trees. I competeted in the Kidslit competition, and although my team didn't win or get a place, the experience was good enough.

I'm proud of myself for entering in the Friends of the Art gallery exhibit without procastinating. I also have been improving my basic facts, even just by a 2 or 3 second difference.

Next term I would like to try and finish my work faster, and not let all the out of class things effect my that much. Maybe even do some at home.

Thank you Miss Hines for teaching us these 2 terms, and we will miss you a lot! Wishing you the best!

Novel Study

For the past few weeks, we have been doing personal novel studies. I did mine on the book 1984. I made my own book cover for it, with a telescreen with the numbers 1984 in the screen part. I also did the character description activity. I also made a word find with words related to the book.

Hanmer Springs Brochure

At the begining of this term, we went to Hanmer Springs for school camp. After we came back, we had to make a brochure of some activities you can do in Hanmer Springs. Here is mine!

Interpreting Timetables

For the past 2 weeks, T2 have been working on reading timetables for buses, airplanes and subways. We got given Workbooks with timetables, and had to answer the questions that followed them. It wasn't that hard for me to do because I have done these types of things when I lived in Taiwan. Here are my workbooks!

Scaffold of an Exposition

Today, we have started to look at constructing a good argument. To begin, we wrote down the scaffold of an exposition to help us make our argument look good. I think this will help a lot for writing about my opinions and arguments.  Here is the Scaffold!

Myths And Legends: FIREFLIES.

For the past few weeks T2 have been writing myths and legends of our own. I was originally writing about Shooting Stars, but over time my plot became the reason that fireflies glow. Here is my finished writing!

Hanmer Camp 2019

From Monday to Wednesday, I have been on school camp. I arrived at school extremely tired and barely awake, and ready to sleep in the car. After awhile of talking, we all got in our cars and left.  I was in Carmens car with Iris. It was very quiet because I napped most of the way, which was very relaxing (I did wake up now and then to eat a few lollies though).

When we arrived at Hanmer Springs Forest Camp, the lady explained a few rules before we went to our bunks. Or maybe it was the other way around, I wasn't exactly awake enough to remember. Soon, Activtity Hanmer arrived and we all left for our first and last activity for the day. My group were doing orienteering, which was just us running around the forest looking for white tubes with numbers and letters on them. My team (Angelina, Billie-Jean, Oliver and I) started out great and had an amazing plan, but took too long walking around and ended up returning half an hour late! It was a lot of fun though, and it was probarbly my favourite activity.

Right after that, it was time to go to the hot pools! I really liked going into the hot pool and then the lazy river for some reason. I had a lot of fun with my friends, and it was (of course) the best part of camp. I went in the super bowl when it was dark and thought I was actually going to fly out and die! Fun. When it did get dark and the lights in the lap pool and lazy river went on and I put my head under the water (with goggles on) it looked really cool. Soon we had to go back to camp and eat dinner. We were all exhusted, and I could be found lying down on the couch or carpet, napping.

Day 2! Waking up was pretty hard, but soon I realised I was hungry and got out to eat. We had breakfast, packed out lunches, and were off for another activity. My group were doing Conical Hill and the Lolly shop first. It was an easy walk, and the lolly shop looked really nice, though it was more expensive than I thought. We went back to camp and ate some lunch before going onto our second activity: Tree Climbing! I didn't expect to get to the top of all the trees, and I was very sure of giving up. But in the end, I forced myself up and made it to the top. That was the most surprising thing for me.

The last activity that day was Mountain Biking. I got really tired at the end and my clothes all got dirty because I half fell about twice. We also saw some people who took so many shortcuts from Conical Hill that we saw them at the bike trail!

Finally, the end of the day. We went back to the Hot pools, but I was so tired I couldn't be bothered going on the superbowl. Most of my time was spent in the hot pools and rock pools.

Hot pools was over really quickly, and it was time to have dinner which was deviled sausages, deliscious! The chocolate pudding that Carmen made was amazing, and definately a highlight. We had camp concert, and some friends and I did the macarena.

Wednesday, the last day. there were only 2 activities today, for me it was the sculpture walk and cemetry explorartion. It was supposed to be one activity but since we had 2 groups, we had to split up and take turns. The sculpters were cool, my favorite one was the possum doing tree climbing.

Then just like that, Camp was over and I was napping all the way back to Greymouth. (Deja vu?)

Holiday In Taiwan

From Apirl 4th to April 26th, I have been on holiday in Taiwan with my dad and brother. We had a lot of fun and it was nice to see my Ama (grandmother) again after such a long time.

The plane trip to get there was pretty much a whole 24 hours. We woke at 3am, drove to Christchurch and take a domestic flight to Auckland. From there, we got on the plane, only to be told we had to wait half an hour because of some issues. Then an hour went by, and the flight ended up getting delayed. In the end, we did each get 20 dollars to spend at the airport so it wasn't too bad.

Finally, we get to Taiwan. I had to abandon my scissors because their too sharp so I was sad about that... We took a taxi from there to Amas house in Muzha. We were all really tired, as i stayed up half the time drawing, watching Bobs Burgers and playing Solitare.

APRIL 5TH FRIDAY
We went out to have breakfast and climb a mountain to a temple with my dads friend. My face was red and I was so glad to have the tea they had at the top. The view was quite disappointing though, since it was so polluted. After we got down the mountain, our dads friend treated us bubble tea!

After that, we took the MRT, Train and finally bus to Maling Elemetry School, where I walked around and got lots of fun memories which mad me sad.  The old security guard was still there even now! Kyles old classmate came to see us with her grandma. Then we went to our old cottage which the new owners made look really beautiful. Another one of Kyles old classmate wanted to see him, so we went to the 7/11 she was at and saw her!

MALING ELEMENTRY SCHOOL GATE.

APRIL 6TH + 7TH, SAT + SUN
Kyle and I took the mrt to see our best friends since we were born (Alanna, Joseph, their little sister Isabel and their amazing mum, Auntie Angie.) Alanna, Isabel and I put some heelys on and flew down to the OK mart. I did trip and I thought nothing of it, just slapping a bandaid on it. Bad idea! I ended up almost fainting the next morning. If Isabel hadn't helped me, it might still be infected.

Alanna, Isabel and I went to this... shop where we bought some face masks and played air hockey.

ALANNA AND ISABEL PLAYING AIR HOCKEY

We watched Dirk Gently and played Jackbox Party Pack, which was a lot of fun. Us girls also put face masks on that made us look like melting Shrek babies.

APRIL 10TH, WEDNESDAY
Kyle and I went to the beach with Angie, Isabel, Alanna and Harley (their teacup chihuahua). I left my shoes there! At this point I'd probarbly return to taiwan with less luggage... The water was so clear and Isabel, Kyle and I went around looking for a sandbar to eat our icecreams on. Alanna had a concussion so she wasn't at school.

BURYING ALANNA
APRIL 13TH, SAT
This was probarbly the best day for me. I took the MRT to DAAN Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University to meet my friends Lian and Tiana! It was Lians schools anniversary, so we went and walked around her school. Then we all got hungry and went to a spagetti place. (Uma was there too, and Juvena joined later.) Lian had to go back and clean her classroom, so Tiana, Uma and I went with Juvena to play a board game with her class.

TIANA AND LIAN AT LIAN'S CLASS

When Lian was free to go, the 4 of us took the MRT to Ximending to look around and eat dinner. We ended up going to a Poop Resturarnt which looked cool. I got curry rice, and the way it was set up was cool and looked filling. Until I realised how shallow the plates actually were.

TIANA AT THE POOP RESTURANT
After eating dinner, we went to the skate park and ran around being idiots.

17TH - 19TH, WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY

Kyle, Baba and I went down to Kending. Angie, Isabel and Angies brother and his wife were there as well so we went to the Baisha beach together in the morning. Tianas mum was there, so we planned for all of us to go Kending main street for dinner. The kids went off while the parents walked around and got drunk! Amazing.  We bought chicken pieces, a massive crepe, octopus balls and a spicy squid which made us sit in 7/11 and chug milk.

There was a lot of other stuff we did, but this is all.

Brunner Mine Facts

Thelma Ekin Visit - The Mine's Afire

Today, we had one of the authors of The Mine's Afire, Thelma Eakin come on and talk to us. We asked her questions and she gave us the answers. I was happy with the way the classes behaved and listened, and it was very interesting hearing what the author thought of her book. She also brought in a few things to show us: A safety lamp and a brass mini replica of the memorial statue on the flood wall.

Week 8 Maths

This week, I have been doing mostly maths. I am in the Galileos, and we had to do our basic facts, maths maintenance sheet, maths buddy tasks, and a workbook. I have done all of these. I'm happy with the way I worked, and I think I did pretty good.

Here is my workbook.

Chewing gum at school

Chewing gum at school has been an on going debate for the teachers and students. Teachers say it's distracting and disgusting, and students say it helps boost memory, focus and makes them work faster.

Not that any of those reasons are why kids want to chew gum, of course. They just want to seem cool or taste flavor or pop bubbles.

For me, although I love chewing gum, it isn't something that I think I really need to have while working. I find it easier to focus when I'm listening to music, because it blocks out the sounds of everyone else talking. Without music, I'd be talking to my friends and getting a little distracted by what they're doing. I become less focused when I'm not listening to music, which is weird because it's supposed to be better with silence.

If we were aloud chewing gum at school, It might be really distracting with the noise of people chewing all the time. And plus, it's not very enjoyable to pick at chewed up gum on the carpet. Chewing gum is made of synthetic rubber, which leaves 100,000 tonnes of plastic pollution every year. So, every time you chew gum, remember that it is no different to any other form of plastic pollution.

If I won the lotto

If I won the lotto, I would be surpised, first of all.
If I won the lotto, I would buy tickets for concerts (Stray Kids, Red Velvet, NCT).
If I won the lotto, I would give save a lot of it for my future and for family.
If I won the lotto, I would let my family get somethings that they want.

If I won the lotto, I would get some new clothes. Not too much though.
If I won the lotto, I would 'adopt' an animal from the WWF website.
If I won the lotto, I would donate some money somewhere.
If I won the lotto, I would go on holiday somewhere new that I've never been.
With my family, of course.

My favorite movie except it isn't a movie

My favorite show at the moment is Mob Psycho 100, which is a Japanese anime that my brother and I are watching together.
This anime is about a boy named Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob (モブ Mobu, background character). He seems like a normal boy, but he is actually a powerful esper (someone who has psychic powers).  He believes that his powers have no use in his life so he avoids using them and suppresses his emotions. But when his emotion hits 100, he loses control.

MOB GOES BOOM BOOM

It gets harder to live a normal life when he meets more espers and get tied up in their "I want to take over the world and YOU can't stop me!", "My psychic powers make me better

than you!" and "you're just a middle schooler, how could you hurt ME?" Haha, funny joke!
Mob

He works as an assistant to con-man (and pro massager) Arakata Reigen, a self proclaimed esper who believes that using your powers to hurt someone else is wrong. Mob looks up to him very much.

At the first episode, I didn't really like the art style and characters, like many other people in the comments. But I was forced by Kyle to watch another episode, so here I am now, announcing that it is my favorite anime.

Reigen

It's pretty funny, and Reigen turns out not to just be an annoying dude that gets on my nerves.

A few other characters!

TSUBOMI - mobs crush

DIMPLE KUN - self proclaimed upper-class evil spirit

RITSU KAGEYAMA - Mobs younger brother

HANAZAWA TERU - esper from Black Vinegar Middle School

The Mines Afire! Diary Entry

I have been working on a fake diary entry. We had to write diary entry about our feelings if our dad or brother or husband died in the mine disaster. Here is my finished product!

Monday 4 March 2019

Some of my favorite music!

My favorite band is Stray Kids.

Stray Kids (or SKZ / skiz) are a 9 member Korean boy group under JYP entertainment. They were formed in a reality show (?) Where they trained to debut as 9. The group members are Bang Chan (leader, singer and rapper), Kim Woojin (oldest, singer), Seo Changbin (main rapper), Lee Felix (rapper), Yang Jeongin (youngest, singer), Kim Seungmin (singer), Lee Minho (dancer, singer), Han Jisung (rapper, sub vocal) and Hwang Hyunjin (main dancer, lead rapper).

All members are Korean except for Chan and Felix, who were born and raised in Australia and speak english. Seungmin and Hyunjin can understand english pretty well.
The first song they released was HellevatorThey debuted in January 2018 with District 9.
3Racha is a predebut rap unit (Jisung as J.ONE, Chan as CB97 and Changbin as SPEARB). The three of them wrote and produced all 3racha and Stray Kids songs. The dances are also done by other Stray Kids members.
I can't name any songs on the spot by Stray Kids that are about love.
My favorite Stray Kids songs are young wings and question

My favorite solo artist is Heize, and 2 songs from her I really like are Sorry, which is about how idols always get put down by netzizens when they make a mistake or get tired. I also like And July ft. Dean.

Recently, I've started to listen to Arctic Monkeys because my friend said she likes them, and they're good! She also introducted me to beabadoobee who I really like as well

My favorite songs by Arctic Monkeys are do I wanna know, I bet you look good on the dance floor and why'd you only call me when you're high?

My favorite beabadoobee song is coffee.

Wellington

I just came back from a really fun trip to Wellington that I went on with the young film makers group.

There were 3 car loads of people, in our car was my mum, my brother Kyle, Billie-Jean and her dad Ben, Arly and I. We left really early on monday, and listened to lots of music on the way (mostly Kyles anime openings). On the ferry we played Sushi Go (a card game) and Super Smash Bros! And finally, we arrived in Wellington.

Tuesday! We started this day by going to Portsmouth to look at the lighting equiptment and 3d cameras that will film an upcoming movie! It was lots of fun playing with the cameras and learning about the different things they do there.

Next, we went to Weta Workshop and touched a lot of the actual things from district 9, lord of the rings and the hobbit! That was pretty cool. They told us a lot about making sculptures, costumes and all that stuff. After that we took a break and had ice blocks.

Now the coolest place: Park Road Post Production! They don't do tours, but somehow, while we were at Portsmouth, they organized for us to go. We couldn't take photos because Peter Jacksons private art collection was there. We got to expeircence Dolby Atmos, which is a surround sound thing. We met lots of people who worked on famous movies, for example a colorist that coloured Mortal Engines, who showed us before and afters of what he did. Oh yeah, we got to see a real life Oscar. Wow.

Finally after a long day, we went back to the marae and had nachos for dinner. I think it was tonight that it rained and hailed really hard, so bad that the pipe was leaking and we all woke up (except for the other girls). It was kinda cool.

The next day, we went to Avalon Studios and learnt about Television things like how they film the news. That was also the place with big studios with greenscreens and stuff where they could build fake waterfalls and mini forests. We met some guys that were making minutures. It was really interesting because everyone was so 'chill', they weren't wearing suits, just normal clothes.

Lastly we went to capital e to film an alien invasion television thing. The whole thing was a big MESS and it was hilarious and full of mistakes, but that was the reason why it was so funny and so much fun.

We had a free day and Thursday, and woke up at 5 on Friday to pack up and leave for Greymouth.

Concluding the Journey

This is the last post for my summer learning Journey. I don't remember when it ends, but I wont be doing it next week since I'm going to Wellington.

What is one thing that you learned from participating in the Summer Learning Journey programme this year? I ended up learning a lot of things, mostly about animals like the orange-fronted parakeet and animals we can adopt on the wwf website!

What is one thing that surprised you? Actually, I was surprised at the comments I got. When I started this, I wasn't really planning on replying to comments, only to finish a post and relax. But overtime, I ended up getting more into it that I planned. Thank you to those who commented!

What is one thing that concerned or upset you? Doing the previous activity kind of made me sad realizing how many species are nearly extinct. Would it be better if humans had been extinct instead? We are part of the reason, aren't we? If we our kind died out during the Ice Age, would there be more animals, fresh air, beautiful plants and no pollution? Probarbly. But it just happened that the timeline we are in right now is the one where that didn't happen. In my mind, I believe there is a alternate universe where humans never survived,  one where dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, and one where the earth fell into pieces. All we can do now is try and help the animals that are becoming extinct, and helping to make the this planet a better place.

What is one thing that you (or your family) can do, moving forward, to help protect our natural environment? We can donate to different charities, 'adpot' an animal, sign a petition.

Adoption Day

ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ oops ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ sorry ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ im dropping all ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ my uwusᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ ᵘʷᵘ

(Live repensentation of me looking through this )

The moment I read what had to be done for this task, I felt as though this was destiny. Looking at animals and ranking them? I'm in! (I'm not sure what happened, usually i'm not this passionate about animals.)

So, even though the task only said 3, I have listed my top 10!

I chose these 10 based on how they caught my eye, I did also to base it on how endangered they are as well, so it wouldn't just be pretty animals that are near threated. Not that we shouldn't care about those as well, since we should prevent those from getting more endangered well also saving those at that extinct in the wild or critically extint.

I did not rank these by any other information other than their apparence and endangerment(?).  And by appearance I don't mean how beautiful they are, I mean how they look and what my eyes think of them.

At third, we have the Black footed Ferret.
Red Panda sits at second,

And first, Cotton top Tamarin!

You can probarbly tell right away from my list, that smaller cute animals attract me. They look so innocent, funny and cute! All three of these animals aren't as intimidating as a shark or lion, although I do like those big animals as well, I decided on these 3.

The Red Panda (10,000) and Black-footed Ferret (370 in the wild, previously thought to be extinct) are both endangered, well Cotton-top tamarin (6,000 in the wild) is critically endangered. The Red Panda and Cotton-top tamarin both seem to like forests up high, well the Black-footed Ferret lives on grassland. All these animals  live in groups of families.
