Wellington

I just came back from a really fun trip to Wellington that I went on with the young film makers group.

There were 3 car loads of people, in our car was my mum, my brother Kyle, Billie-Jean and her dad Ben, Arly and I. We left really early on monday, and listened to lots of music on the way (mostly Kyles anime openings). On the ferry we played Sushi Go (a card game) and Super Smash Bros! And finally, we arrived in Wellington.

Tuesday! We started this day by going to Portsmouth to look at the lighting equiptment and 3d cameras that will film an upcoming movie! It was lots of fun playing with the cameras and learning about the different things they do there.

Next, we went to Weta Workshop and touched a lot of the actual things from district 9, lord of the rings and the hobbit! That was pretty cool. They told us a lot about making sculptures, costumes and all that stuff. After that we took a break and had ice blocks.

Now the coolest place: Park Road Post Production! They don't do tours, but somehow, while we were at Portsmouth, they organized for us to go. We couldn't take photos because Peter Jacksons private art collection was there. We got to expeircence Dolby Atmos, which is a surround sound thing. We met lots of people who worked on famous movies, for example a colorist that coloured Mortal Engines, who showed us before and afters of what he did. Oh yeah, we got to see a real life Oscar. Wow.

Finally after a long day, we went back to the marae and had nachos for dinner. I think it was tonight that it rained and hailed really hard, so bad that the pipe was leaking and we all woke up (except for the other girls). It was kinda cool.

The next day, we went to Avalon Studios and learnt about Television things like how they film the news. That was also the place with big studios with greenscreens and stuff where they could build fake waterfalls and mini forests. We met some guys that were making minutures. It was really interesting because everyone was so 'chill', they weren't wearing suits, just normal clothes.

Lastly we went to capital e to film an alien invasion television thing. The whole thing was a big MESS and it was hilarious and full of mistakes, but that was the reason why it was so funny and so much fun.

We had a free day and Thursday, and woke up at 5 on Friday to pack up and leave for Greymouth.

Concluding the Journey

This is the last post for my summer learning Journey. I don't remember when it ends, but I wont be doing it next week since I'm going to Wellington.

What is one thing that you learned from participating in the Summer Learning Journey programme this year? I ended up learning a lot of things, mostly about animals like the orange-fronted parakeet and animals we can adopt on the wwf website!

What is one thing that surprised you? Actually, I was surprised at the comments I got. When I started this, I wasn't really planning on replying to comments, only to finish a post and relax. But overtime, I ended up getting more into it that I planned. Thank you to those who commented!

What is one thing that concerned or upset you? Doing the previous activity kind of made me sad realizing how many species are nearly extinct. Would it be better if humans had been extinct instead? We are part of the reason, aren't we? If we our kind died out during the Ice Age, would there be more animals, fresh air, beautiful plants and no pollution? Probarbly. But it just happened that the timeline we are in right now is the one where that didn't happen. In my mind, I believe there is a alternate universe where humans never survived,  one where dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, and one where the earth fell into pieces. All we can do now is try and help the animals that are becoming extinct, and helping to make the this planet a better place.

What is one thing that you (or your family) can do, moving forward, to help protect our natural environment? We can donate to different charities, 'adpot' an animal, sign a petition.

The moment I read what had to be done for this task, I felt as though this was destiny. Looking at animals and ranking them? I'm in! (I'm not sure what happened, usually i'm not this passionate about animals.)

So, even though the task only said 3, I have listed my top 10!

I chose these 10 based on how they caught my eye, I did also to base it on how endangered they are as well, so it wouldn't just be pretty animals that are near threated. Not that we shouldn't care about those as well, since we should prevent those from getting more endangered well also saving those at that extinct in the wild or critically extint.

I did not rank these by any other information other than their apparence and endangerment(?).  And by appearance I don't mean how beautiful they are, I mean how they look and what my eyes think of them.

At third, we have the Black footed Ferret.
Red Panda sits at second,

And first, Cotton top Tamarin!

You can probarbly tell right away from my list, that smaller cute animals attract me. They look so innocent, funny and cute! All three of these animals aren't as intimidating as a shark or lion, although I do like those big animals as well, I decided on these 3.

The Red Panda (10,000) and Black-footed Ferret (370 in the wild, previously thought to be extinct) are both endangered, well Cotton-top tamarin (6,000 in the wild) is critically endangered. The Red Panda and Cotton-top tamarin both seem to like forests up high, well the Black-footed Ferret lives on grassland. All these animals  live in groups of families.

♡.°୭̥ ୨୧ My art and plants! 😎

I was watering my plants ^

Changing Climates

On a rainy day, I would like to relax.
I'd put on a playlist, maybe paint for awhile, read a few books, reorganize a few things, and take a bath. I'd probarbly open the window at some point and look outside, just listening to the rain. I might end up online 'shopping' and wanting everything but forgetting about it a day later. My mum would ask me to vacuum and clean, but it's not exactly something I WANT to do on a rainy day. Though I do enjoy cleaning!

Out of context but: forever rain!! It's a beautiful song and I really loved it ever since it was released. The lyrics are sad but

Taking Flight

Orange-fronted Parakeet
The orange-fronted parakeet, also known as the Kākāriki Karaka, is a pretty little green bird with a lemon yellow crown and orange frontal band above the eyes. They enjoy eating flowers, buds, inverebrates (caterpillars and scale insects) and seeds. These cute birds can be found in beech forests.

Flying Foxes

The superpower I'd like to have is pretty overpowered, and would probarbly make me bored like One Punch Man. It's the ability to change the percentage of anything happening, for example me becoming rich or world peace. If something had no chance of happening, I could change it to 100% or what ever percentage I want to. Maybe it would be fun, but over time, there would be no real adventure to anything because I could just change the possibility of something. I could remove all evil from the world, make everyone happy and friendly, make the planet a clean place, cure cancer. It'd get boring.

Crazy, Cool Clouds

Recently, I've actually been kinda interested in clouds. I used to have a cloud guide app on my old phone that has names of different clouds, how to identify them and what they mean. I found the app through a magazine: Teen Breathe.

This cloud looks a little like white cotton, and just looking at it is refreshing (not like real cotton).  Falling into it in my imagination feels fluffy and thick, but not hard. It also isn't flat, instead it has a lot of volume.

Straight away, I for some reason connect the texture with popcorn. It reminds me of those colourful popcorns, but white, of course. This cloud looks larger that the previous one, and is also taller than it is wide.
The shape of this cloud reminds me of a beyblade spinning very fast. Upside down, its about the same shape as a straw hat. It looks very smooth, like it's clay on a turntable. The bottom is a bit longer and the top is wider.

Weaving a Tall Tale…

Flax weaving looks really fun and interesting, and I've never tried it before. It's not really something I would take on as a hobby, but it does look like something I'd like to try out one day. I've seen people do it before but it looks really hard and I don't think I'd be able to sit through it.

The Air Up There

  • The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to hum, buzz, or drone
  • Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of 54 kilometres per hour (km/h).
  • Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to 90 percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.
  • Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do up to   50 times as much work as a normal honeybee.
  • The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the removal of wildflowers and flowering trees, habitat loss, and extensive use of pesticides

First You ‘Sea’ Me, Now You Don’t…

I'm a night owl, whether it's school days or not, I usually get alive near 10pm. And no matter when I go to sleep, I always fall asleep near 11:30. I don't think my dad is either a night owl or a early riser because he goes to sleep early and likes to sleep in. My mum, I'm not really sure of either. She's up late a lot but also wakes up earlier? Maybe their should be 2 more types of people. My brother might be a night owl too.
