Top 3 Fun Facts

1. Just under a third of New Zealand is made of forest.
2. God Save the Queen and God Defend New Zealand are the two national anthems of New Zealand. (I didn't actually know this, I've never heard of God Save the Queen)
3. We don't have any snakes in New Zealand.
An extra one I wanted to add is that hamsters are illegal here! I was disappointed when I moved here because my mum said we could get a hamster, and we really like hamsters.

  1. Hi Hannah,
It's great to see you make a start on the Summer Learning Journey. I was disappointed about the hamster rule, too! It's good to know there are no snakes, though, isn't it?
I look forward to reading a new blog post soon.
    Mum.

  2. Hello Hannah,

I'm Evelyn and I will be working with the Summer Learning Journey team for 2018-2019 to read and follow amazing blog posts like yours! I am so excited to read what pops into that wonderful brain of yours and hope you have fun on this journey!

Those are some interesting facts about New Zealand! I have lived here my whole life and did not know about some of these facts so thank you for telling me a bit more about our country! I can't believe that 30% of our country is forest, that is quite a lot if you think about it! Do you enjoy spending time in nature or our forests? Hiking is always a must-do in New Zealand! I like to go on a hike every once in a while. I am just as surprised as you are about your second fact! Thankfully there are no snakes in New Zealand, I don't think I would be able to sleep at night if we had snakes roaming around! I don't particularly like snakes and would be very scared if I met one. You can find snakes at the zoo though, have you ever seen them? Are you scared of any animals? It's good that New Zealand doesn't have many dangerous animals at all. We're very lucky to call this place home. What an interesting bonus fact you have added! I also really like hamsters and think they are absolutely adorable. You have done an awesome job of putting the information into your own words, what a great start to your Summer Learning Journey, keep it up!

    Happy blogging,
    Evelyn :D

    1. Hi Eveyln,
thank you for the lovely comment!
I do enjoy spending time in nature, but personally I do not like hiking. My dad always tries to take me on them! I'm a bit scared of snakes too, but not like you described. I used to live in Taiwan, and we had many snakes roaming around school and home. Not to the point that we see them much, and they don't really bother us. Pretty chill, actually.

      Thanks for the comment!

    2. Kia ora Hannah,

      It's a pleasure!

Haha my dad also used to take me on hikes too and I didn't enjoy them much but now that I am older, I find that they can be quite relaxing, especially to temporarily escape from the busy city that I live in which is Auckland. Have you been to Auckland before?

What a coincidence! I was born and raised in New Zealand but I am Taiwanese and I fly back for a visit every two years. I haven't met a snake in Taiwan yet but that's because I live in Taipei which is also a very busy city with lots of people and no farm lands. Have you been to Taipei before? It's such a fun place to explore, I love it! Where do you live in Taiwan? I take the train down south sometimes to visit my dad's side of the family. There's a lot of rice farms there but luckily, I have still not met a snake there yet!

Excited to read your future posts!
      Evelyn :)
