Hometown (activity 2)

Keelung (Taiwan) is my hometown, but I live in Greymouth. So I'm just going to do the task on  Keelung.

A special thing about Keelung is the harbour, which is very popular. It became one of the busiest in the world during the 60s and 70s. The fish market is also very successful. There is a museum near the harbour, which has information about the bay. I really like the museum, especially the model ship where you can pretend you are a salior on.

  1. Kia ora Hannah,

I have been to Keelung before, I went a few years ago and I thought it was a really nice city with a lot of cultural displays. The Keelung night market was one of my favourite places to go while I was there. I bought a lot of delicious food, I can still taste it in my mouth, yum! Have you been to the Keelung night market before? Taiwanese night markets are the best, they're so energetic and lively! When I visit Keelung next time I will make sure I visit the harbour and the museum, thank you for your suggestions. What is your absolute favourite thing to do or place to go to in your hometown or in Taiwan? I always make sure to buy some pearl milk tea (or bubble tea) when I am there, it tastes so good!

    Best,
    Evelyn :)

    1. Hey Evelyn!

      Thank you for the comment.
The night markets in Taiwan really are great! Back in April my family and I had went back, and we met up with old friends to go to one. I also remember almost every second day my brother would buy bubble tea from 7/11 for me. Actually, next year my dad was thinking of going back to visit our ama and I would love to go meet with my friends and go shopping more! Something really memorable for me in Keelung would be my school. We didn't have many students (50). I think that the percussion(?) band was really cool and I liked going on trips to preform.

I'll leave here before I keep rambiling!

  2. Hi Hannah,

Do you remember going to the beaches around Keelung? They are a lot like our West Coast beaches here, but the water in Keelung is a lot warmer! We were very lucky to have that percussion band at school. And the insect room and the organic garden... I miss exploring the area!

Did you know that the museum building got bombed in World War II, during heavy bombing by the Allies? It was a beautiful building built in the Japanese era, but it lost a lot of its beauty in that bombing.

    Mum.
